The Kura Kura Resort occupies its own 22 hectare island crowded with soaring royal palms and set amongst immaculately tended gardens crisscrossed with sandy paths. It is very peaceful with often the only sound being the calls of the exotic birds that call the island home.

There are 39 rooms in total in the Kura Kura Resort. They are all Indonesian in feel, but the pool villas especially so. If you want open views across the calm waters then the seaview cottages are for you, but if you crave a bit of privacy and spoiling then the spacious pool villas, set in their own walled grounds are the perfect hideaways, especially for honeymooners for whom this is a favoured destination.

One thing to note is that there is no decent beach on the island itself. However, a short hop away and serviced on a regular basis by the resort, is something better, a deserted island with translucent waters, perfect white sand and lots of shade where you can while away the hours in Robinson Crusoe mode. Whilst on that subject, they have just completed the building of a simple private villa on its own white sand islet, Krakal, where you can spend a few days, looked after by your own chef and that is something very special indeed. Simple but totally private.

The Kura Kura Resort is Italian owned and managed, and it naturally shows in the dining room. Whether you are dining in the open sided patio, round the pool or occasionally suspended above the shallow waters, the food is excellent, the fresh juices perfection, and the staff amongst the gentlest, most attentive and kindest you could hope for.

There is a new dive centre with excellent equipment and boats and all in all it is a very tightly run ship. It is all very well run by the characterful Renato, painless for the guest with delicious fruit and freshly baked pastries between dives and the boats plentiful as this place is buzzing in the summer months when they are all needed.

Away from the water, the order of the day here is very much rest and relaxation. You can take trips to neighbouring islands, take out the canoes or paddle boards but other than that there is not a huge amount to do. This is part of the appeal!
