Surrounded by the azure waters of the Edufaaru lagoon, on the beautiful tropical island of Medhufaru, is Soneva Jani - the brand’s newest resort. Part of a five-island cluster in the Noonu Atoll, four islands remain untouched, while Soneva Jani is one of the lowest density resorts in the world.

The island is fringed by beaches and covered with lush greenery and dotted across this landscape are 25 villas - 24 water villas and one island villa. All accommodations overlook the Indian Ocean and have direct access to the crystal clear lagoon beyond. Each villa has a private pool and some feature slides plunging from the top decking area into the lagoon below. Soneva is an eco-friendly resort and the villas are constructed over the lagoon's sandy floors, ensuring the reef remains undamaged. The pools use seawater with UV filtration, while the villas were built using sustainable materials, creating a natural feel. On lazy afternoons, guests can lie back and relax on their private outdoor decks, complete with sun loungers and sunken tables.

Dining at Soneva Jani is far from dull, with gourmet menus spanning a range of cultures, and served at five different dining venues. The Gathering is the central dining spot, offering fresh juices and hand-picked fruits for breakfast. As the day progresses, guests can indulge in anything from wood-fired pizzas to freshly caught and grilled to order seafood. Destination dining can be arranged, whether you fancy a simple beach barbeque or a romantic meal beside the lagoon. Soneva's much loved cheese, chocolate and ice-cream rooms will feature at the resort and for the foodies amongst you, why not try your hand at cooking in the classes available?

Water babies will be in their element at this lagoon resort, which is rich in marine life and the perfect place for kayaking, sailing and, of course, diving. There is a Soleni Dive Centre with PADI instructors, who take small groups out to explore the number of dive sites surrounding the resort. The rich array of marine life includes turtles, rays and occasionally dolphins, but for those eager to spot dolphins, we suggest hopping on board a dolphin cruise boat. Found on the secluded North Island, The Beach is a hot spot for swimming, snorkelling or simply soaking up the sun.

Back on dry land, guests can cycle along the island trails, play a game of tennis, or visit the outdoor cinema. The Cinema Paradiso will be the first 'silent cinema' in the Maldives and visitors will watch films using Bluetooth earphones, so that the area's nesting wildlife remains undisturbed. For a relaxing afternoon, guests can head to the resort spa, while children can enjoy the activities on offer at The Den.

There is a retractable roof in the master bedroom of each villa, which slides back at the press of a button, so guests can stargaze from the comfort of their beds.
