Four Seasons Lana'i at Manele Bay

Four Seasons Lana'i at Manele Bay is perched on top of a red-lava cliff overlooking the lovely Hulopo'e white-sand beach. The resort borders a marine preserve and is coloured with waterfalls, gardens, streams and ponds.

The hotel itself has 236 bedrooms in total, all of which are spacious and comfortable with big bathrooms and L'Occitane goodies. We particularly recommend the Prime Oceanfront Terrace rooms which feel as big as suites and have terraces that lead out into a lawn.

The lower lobby has outdoor seating for cocktails and this is where guests will find the hotel's restaurants; One Forty is so named because this is the perfect temperature to cook a steak and specialises in - surprise, surprise - steak and seafood. Nearby is an outlet of superslick sushi restaurant Nobu which also has ocean views, and also serves lunch at the bar by the pool. In addition, the Sports Bar has gorgeous ocean views and offers the full Americana bar experience - big food, fun cocktails and pool tables. Finally, Kailani is the poolside restaurant offering mostly Italian food. For special occasions the hotel have lovely private cabanas right on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea, where you can have supper or a massage.

The beach is a short stroll from the hotel swimming pool with clear waters perfect for snorkelling and swimming. The waves do get quite sizeable, though, and then this is the perfect place for surfing. For a bit of pampering there is the spa, which is small but perfectly formed, with six treatment rooms and a beauty salon. In addition there is a steam room and sauna. Private cabanas with private bar and TV are available by the pool at an additional cost, but even without this, the pool service is very attentive and the staff bring out little snacks and small complimentary drinks during the day.

For any golfers out there, The Challenge is a championship course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Even if you don't play; try to have lunch at the club house where the restaurant feels almost like it's on the water. Other activities include diving, paddle boarding, deep sea fishing, surfing and snorkelling are all available here, and sometimes dolphins come into the bay, so you can swim with them.

Why We Love It

Throughout the hotel there are pineapple motifs - nods to Lana'i Island's former life as the world's biggest pineapple plantation.
