Our Papua New Guinea Diving Blog

Coral Reefs

We were particularly excited for this week's episode of Blue Planet 2, which took us underwater to explore the most diverse marine ecosystems: coral reefs. Despite covering less than one percent of the Earth's surface, these submarine cities support a staggering 25 percent of all marine species. And once again, the chaps at Blue Planet didn't disappoint, showing some of the reefs more eclectic residents, including a terrifying pre-historic bobbit worm reminiscent of Stranger Things (more on that later), a grouper and octopus hunting together and a turtle spa, as well as a host of other fascinating marine life. But as the episode ended we felt rather restless; the TV is not enough to satiate us, we need to see these glorious ecosystems in the flesh. So if you're a bit like us and fancy an Attenborough adventure, read on for our favourite coral reefs.

The Wonders of Papua New Guinea

Since arriving at Original Diving in 2012, Papua New Guinea has always been at the top of my travel list. Not only did the diving appeal, but the wildlife and culture is so varied that I was eager to experience it all (I have David Attenborough to thank for a lot of this!) Luckily, last October I got my chance. The first thing to understand about PNG is that it is not a luxury destination, but this is not what you come for - it is the diving, culture, birding, and scenery that should tempt people. It is the perfect place for those who really want to get off the beaten track. In fact, of all the places I have been lucky enough to visit, nowhere comes as close to the meaning of 'remote' as PNG.

New Dive Destinations Uncovered

At Dive in Style, we spend our lives researching exciting and new dive destinations so you don't have to. We will soon be launching a new website with lots of new dive trips but here's a taster of what's to come. These trips are perfect whether you want to dive, snorkel, or just relax.

Papua New Guinea - The Final Frontier

Tell most people you are planning a trip to Papua New Guinea and there are likely to be two initial reactions; the first, and most likely response will be a blank stare followed by the question "is that in Africa?", and the second will likely be "don't they eat people there?". "No" and "no" should be the response.
