Hidden deep in the Indian Ocean, a scenic seaplane from Malé followed by a short boat ride brings you to Six Senses Laamu, the only resort in the remote Laamu Atoll. Surrounded by palm-fringed beaches and turquoise panoramas, this is a hotel that truly gets you truly “off the radar".

Sustainable yet luxurious, the 97 Beach and Overwater Villas were built using local natural materials and feature alfresco bathrooms, including transparent bathtubs in the Overwater Villas, tree top decks, and, in the Beach Villas, private gardens, to effortlessly blend into their surroundings.

Isolation and a lack of development in the Laamu Atoll makes it a diver's paradise. Home to the famous "Manta Point", guests can witness these majestic creatures alongside whitetip sharks, hawksbill turtles, barracudas and myriad colourful fish, and, of course, vibrant coral reefs.

Despite its secluded location, Six Senses Laamu caters to the most diehard foodie with three restaurants, an ice cream and chocolate studio, dramatic sunken pool bar, an overwater wine cellar (housing 500 different labels) and a signature Chill bar. Guests can feast on a bountiful breakfast (and return for à la carte dinners) at Longitude, sample fresh fish accompanied by organic produce straight from the garden at Leaf and dine on melt-in-your-mouth sushi and sashimi at Zen, all with tropical panoramas. Romantic candle-lit barbeque dinners can also be arranged on the sandbank.

Guests can chill out at the open-air Jungle Cinema, or for total R&R can head to the Six Senses Spa, which is located right on the beach and offers holistic therapies using natural ingredients. Further facilities include a sauna, gym and lap swimming pool. Yoga and personal training programmes are also offered on the raised meditation platform overlooking the ocean. The resort's children's club, The Den, ensures to keep kids preoccupied, whilst babysitting services are also available.

Those who prefer to stay in the sea can windsurf, wakeboard and sail aboard a Catamaran, or, for the more adventurous, surf the Ying Yang, an eight foot world-class surf break just off shore. Unforgettable island-hopping excursions ensure to immerse guests into the local culture

Why we love it

After a morning exploring the magnificant reefs, refuel with a private picnic on a deserted island - with a frosty glass of wine, of course.
