Dive Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea
Professional and amateur divers alike consistently rate Papua New Guinea as one of the top dive destinations on earth and it is easy to see why.
Consistently warm waters, pristine coral and some of the greatest marine biodiversity on the planet make this a destination near the top of any diver’s wish list. To top it all off there is hardly anyone else here; you will rarely dive with more than a handful of people at even the most popular dive sites.
Papua New Guinea really does hold something for every diver; those that love the thrill of the current and the big fish should head to Lissenung near Kavieng in New Ireland province; for simply breathtaking coral (probably the best our dive team have ever seen) and macro life, Walindi, in West New Britain is best; and for stunning offshore reefs teeming with wildlife including hammerheads, Tufi in Oro Province is the place to be.
In all honesty wherever you go and whatever you are looking for, you won’t be disappointed especially (as we would recommend) you combine a couple of different areas as they are all unique. What is common is great marine life, deserted reefs and often crystal clear waters.
If you are making the trip to Papua New Guinea, we would recommend you spend some time on land too as it is fascinating. It’s all about the diversity both in terms of people and culture (there are over 800 active languages) and wildlife (particularly birds) as well as the thrill of adventure. Any trip to the interior of the country should try and take in at least two, and ideally more of the different areas as seeing and taking part in the diverse cultures is what makes this place so special. Whether you choose to canoe down the Karawari river in an outrigger canoe, visit the Huli Wigmen in Tari, trek the famous Kokoda Track, or explore the fascinating island provinces; there is enough to keep you occupied for months (though we will make sure you get the best in whatever time you have).
When it comes to the accommodation and boats, don’t expect stylish five-star luxury in these remote outposts; instead you will find small, intimate and comfortable resorts that cater well to both divers and non-divers alike. Each has its own personality which is what we like and each of those we feature offers you the chance to do some world-class diving in this stunning, and relatively untouched country.
