Dive Wakatobi

Indonesia

Sulawesi is near the top of all divers’ bucket lists and Wakatobi offers a luxurious way to experience this incredible part of the world whether on board the boat, Pelagian, or from land.

WAKATOBI IS INCLUDED IN OUR BOOK, DIVE IN STYLE

The location could not be more exotic, hanging like an earring off the southern tip of Sulawesi in the Banda Sea. To make it easier and also to give you a great two-centre holiday, you have to route through Bali, not exactly a hardship and a wonderful excuse to stay at one of the incomparable hotels to be found there en-route.

Wakatobi is something of an enigma, straddling the divide between luxury dive resort and boutique hotel. The atmosphere is incredibly relaxed, the local staff ever helpful, and given where you are it is an amazing achievement, the more so as it puts so much back into the local community. Without the hotel’s existence, it is frighteningly credible that the reefs would by now have been dynamited to extinction.

You can choose to stay at the resort in one of the well-appointed bungalows either in the lovely gardens or on the beach or if you are looking for something really special you could go for one of the pool villas for the utmost in luxury. Whatever you go for you will not want for comfort.

Life at Wakatobi has a community feel to it and you can eat in the main restaurant each night, swapping stories about the day’s diving, after a cold drink at the Jetty Bar. Wakatobi operates a full board plan only so all your meals and lots of activities, including the diving, are included in the price of the trip.

When it comes to the diving it is difficult to know where to start. How about 400 species of coral and 700 species of fish officially recorded, not in Indonesia generally, but here in Wakatobi. A further statistic, a yardstick used by marine biologists to establish the health and diversity of the reef, is the number of species of butterflyfish encountered. The highest count we can find is 40, and that is here in Wakatobi. There's not much more to be said. Well there is, it has the reputation of having the best house reef in the world, rightly so.

You can stay at the resort and do daily boat diving from land as well as unlimited shore diving, or you could choose to join their liveaboard, Pelagian to head to some of the dive sites further afield. Whatever you want, we can help you to arrange it.

Testimonials

A refreshing approach.

It would seem that business is most definitely going well for you and I am so pleased, dive specific holiday companies seem to be offering poor services at the moment due to the economic climate, however your approach has most definitely been refreshing to say the least. I think you are doing a great job and your service is second to none...I am in a good position to judge as well
