Basecamp Mafia Island

The 27 rooms at Basecamp Mafia Island are comfortable, airy and spacious. Each of the rooms is set among swaying coconut palms and boasts either a garden or sea view from its private veranda. As well as 14 Standard and nine Superior Rooms, there are also four sea-view Family Suites, each of which have been recently renovated and boast two connecting rooms (which can sleep up to four), a shared bathroom and two peaceful verandas.

Dining at Basecamp Mafia Island is a relaxed and leisurely experience. The open-air restaurant serves up fresh, local dishes from breakfast through to dinner, and the beach bar is the perfect place to sip cocktails while watching the sun set over the shores.

The warm, colourful waters of the Indian Ocean surrounding the eco resort make it an ideal location for divers, whether you'd rather go deep-sea fishing, scuba diving or snorkelling with whale sharks. Mad about marine life? You're in luck: there are over 400 species of fish inhabiting the reefs in the surrounding Mafia Island Marine Park, so keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, giant reef rays, octopus, seahorse, crocodile fish and many more. Guests can head out on a traditional dhow to a range of dive spots suitable for all experience levels, from complete beginners learning the ropes on the shore to advanced open water divers venturing out of the bay. Travelling with a few landlubbers? Don't worry: non-diving guests can simply relax on the sandy shores with a good book, listening to the sound of the palms gently waving in the breeze.
