Located off the north-east coast of Zanzibar, barefoot luxury escape Mnemba Island Lodge is an award-wining jewel sitting in the untouched Mnemba atoll.
There are just eleven rustic palm tree-thatched bandas hidden along the beach overlooking the turquoise atoll. All bandas feature en-suite bathrooms with impressive glass beaded curtains, spacious verandas and a private beach sala with sunbeds. Each banda comes with a private butler to ensure you have an unforgettable experience.
Diving is stress-free as the island features its own fully equipped PADI dive school. A protection zone surrounds the island, resulting in great diving amongst pristine reefs, colourful and varied fish and endangered turtles straight from the island's shores.
Dining is focused on delicious, fresh produce; think baskets of fresh fruit, the day's catch delivered straight to the island's shores and beautifully displayed mezze platters, all served over stunning panoramas of the turquoise horizon. For a more private setting, romantic candlelit dinners can be organised at the water's edge, or a private beach picnic if you fancy a different setting.
The beauty here is that you can do nothing at all, however, for the active additional activities on the island include all the usual water sports, dhow cruises, fishing and birdwatching.
Why we love it
The island is just one mile in circumference, populated with swaying palm trees and powder white beaches, and with just 20 guests, you'll have a real private island experience.
