Neill and Louisa are here to help give you the inside track.

The Lizard Island Resort is fantastic; all rooms have balconies overlooking gardens and sandy beaches, with meals and many island activities included. The diving is first class - Lizard Island is home to some of the most pristine coral we have seen - and other activities including tennis and hiking are also available.

In addition, discover secluded, pristine beaches by foot or in your own motorised dinghy with a gourmet picnic just for two. Fishing enthusiasts can charter the Fascination for a day of exhilarating game fishing. Try bush walking, sailing, a glass bottom boat trip, or perhaps indulge in the serenity and relaxation of a pampering treatment at the luxurious Azure Spa.

A three-minute ride from the island's simple airstrip delivers you to the hotel's discreet single-storey lodge, a wide, wooden-floored expanse with deep wicker sofas and timber chairs that sets the tone of laid-back luxury. Radiating out like wings on either side of the lodge are the rooms which all feature bright, modern Australian d├ęcor. All open directly onto shady private terraces, some with daybeds while others provide hammocks. The Sunset Point Villas are built on the gently sloping hillside above Sunset Beach while the Anchor Bay Rooms and Suites, each with their own white-sand track leading to the main beach, are fronted by a rolling green lawn, palms, pine trees and the blue sea.

When it comes to eating, the food represents the best of Australian fusion cooking. With the exception of beachside picnics, all meals are served in the lodge's main diving pavilion overlooking the sea.

The Lizard Island dive centre is faultless, with no fewer than ten instructors and a full range of up-to-date dive gear. Full day excursions out to the Great Barrier Reef are offered every other day, and night dives are available on request. Here you will come across some of the best coral we have ever seen as well as having thrilling close encounters with a gargantuan Cod and Maori Wrasse. Go now!
