Set within the volcanic basin village of Furnas, with its boiling pools and famous botanical gardens, this small and luxurious hotel is a welcome addition to the town.
Portuguese designer Nini Andrade Silva and his team have created a concept for the hotel's interior that fosters a direct relationship with its natural surroundings, whilst also maintaining the original character of the hotel. Balance is struck between interior and exterior by a deliberate choice of neutral, organic textures and colours, and the simple bohemian décor in the bedrooms reflects that. Guests can choose from several room categories, from cosy standard rooms to spacious suites.
The restaurant, À Terra, continues the theme of embracing the hotel's natural surroundings by serving local and seasonal dishes cooked in a traditional wood-fired oven. Though the dining room is sleek and stylish the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the service is fantastic.
One of the highlights of a stay at Furnas Boutique Hotel is the magnificent thermal spa which has an outdoor geothermal pool, indoor thermal pool, sauna, hammam, ten treatment rooms and a gym. Additionally there are numerous activities to be enjoyed in and around Furnas, including hiking trails, hot springs and mountain biking tracks.
This is easily the best hotel in Furnas, and with so much to see and do here I would always recommend visiting the area if people are interested in seeing more of the Azores than just the diving.
