Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo

The Four Seasons Papagayo is located on the Pacific coast of north-west Costa Rica – a scenic region of dry tropical forest, volcanic peaks and some of the country’s best beaches.

The majority of the resort's bedrooms are located within three main buildings, which are designed to look like the lip of a terracotta pot or an armadillo - this maybe not to everyone's design taste, but they are certainly different and blend in surprisingly well to the surrounding area! We would recommend asking for a room on the upper floors for spectacular views over the grounds.

Dine at the four delicious restaurants which range from Latin themed sea food to a steak house with a Costa Rican twist or Italian wine bar. The staff are very attentive and dining pool side is a must.

With hiking trails and wildlife watching from the rainforest canopy, there are many activities to suit all ages, or if you are looking for something a little more relaxing chill in the spa or take part in a yoga class.

The marine life on the Papagayo Peninsula is one of the best on the Pacific Coast, with the exception of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Coco Island. Diving at the Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo is simplicity itself. Run by an American family, Diving Safaris is a 15-minute boat ride across the bay, not that you will ever have to visit. At 9 a.m. you leave for a two-tank dive from Playa Blanca, the hotel's own beach, and the team is always on time. Visibility could be better and there is a lack of coral, however the diverse range of marine life more than makes up for these short falls. Head to Bat Island for almost guaranteed encounters with Bull Sharks.

Rooms at the Costa Rica Four Seasons are inspired by the shape of an armadillo. Not to everyone's architectural taste but undeniably unique!
