Arguably the biggest draw of diving at Ningaloo Reef is the seasonal feeding concentrations of the gentle giant, the whale shark, between March and July each year.

Approximately 800 miles north of Perth, Western Australia's easy-going state capital, lies the Ningaloo Reef. While it is about much more than just whale sharks, the biggest reason most people visit is to snorkel with these magnificent creatures. At the right time of year this is virtually guaranteed. Throw in manta rays, turtles and humpback whales to name but a few of the creatures you are likely to encounter and you have the makings of a special trip.

Away from the diving there is much to see in this less-visited part of Australia. There is of course the city of Perth but there is much more. How about exploring the forests of ancient and giant trees, a night sleeping under a canopy of stars or marvelling at the strange beehive-like formations of the Bungle Bungles with the help of an Aboriginal guide? Not to mention the wine, stunning landscapes and turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.

In the cool of the evening kangaroos and wallaroos emerge from the bush for their evening graze, often just in front of the bar at Sal Salis.
