Okinawa Diving Holidays
We are looking forward to selling dive trips here in the near future - watch this space...
Set 400 miles southwest of mainland Japan, the Okinawa Prefecture comprises a whopping 160 islands, categorised into four main groups: the Okinawa Islands, the Miyako Islands, the Yaeyama Islands and the Daito Islands. Above land, Okinawa is known for having the population with the longest life expectancy in the world, but for us divers, the appeal lies under the water. You'll be treated to thrilling dive sites, vibrant coral and a variety of wonderful wildlife (including the majestic humpback whale). Sound good? We think so.
Okinawa, the Prefecture's main island, is perfect for beginners and pros alike. Newbies can dip their toes in (literally) with beach-entry dives and kaleidoscope coral close to the shore. More seasoned divers can visit the renowned Blue Cave, known for its magical blue glow, to see staunch soldierfish and shoals of juvenile batfish.
Okinawa might be the most well-known of the bunch, but venture to some of the lesser-known islands for equally exciting dives. Closest to Okinawa are the Kerama Islands, designated as a vast national park and home to nesting sea turtles and coral reefs. Further along the Prefecture there's even more to see: visit Kume Island for dramatic drop-offs and looming underwater caverns, the Miyako Islands for technical cave dives or the Yaeyama Islands for a bit of shark-spotting.
Above water, the islands also offer a distinct culture, blending Chinese, Taiwanese and Polynesian influences, so any landlubbers will still have the holiday of a lifetime. To make your trip the best it can be, we recommend diving two of these island groups (or more…) for a good amount of variety.
