Family Diving Adventure in Belize

This morning, you'll head back to Miami Airport for your flight to Palencia, via Belize City. Upon landing, a driver will be waiting to assist you with your bags and transfer you to your villa accommodation, sandwiched between the tropical rainforest and the Caribbean coastline.

Considered one of the healthiest areas of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve, Silk Cayes has a thriving reef system that supports a plethora of reef fish. If you love colourful reefs, buzzing with fish activity, and the occasional reef or nurse shark swim by, all in crystal-clear waters, your day spent here will exceed all expectations. You'll do two dives in this area, with lunch provided, before heading back to your island resort for a bit of relaxation or inland exploration.

A slightly longer boat ride pays off in spades for your day spent diving the outer sites of the main barrier reef of Belize. Beautiful coral islands dot the area and draw a vast array of life to their outcroppings. Keep a keen eye for octopus hunting about the cracks and crevices of the reef, sharks cruising the drop offs and turtles and rays meandering along the bottom. This day will consist of another two dives, lunch and a bit of boat cruising in between your underwater adventures.

Your final day in Palencia is yours to enjoy at leisure. Take the day to explore Laughing Bird Caye, brimming with shallow sights ideal for snorkelling or embark on a guided tour to uncover the local Mayan ruins.

Today you'll head off to your final stop down the coast. After scenic one-hour drive, you'll arrive in Hopkins at your next adventure and dive resort. After settling into your room, head out to the golden beach for a dip in the clear blue water and relax as the warm sea breeze drifts past your lounger. Come evening, enjoy a dinner prepared with fresh local ingredients and maybe sip a sundowner before turning in for the night.

Wake up bright and early to embark on your half-day of exploring the world-famous barrier reef of Belize. Enjoy two dives surrounded by turtles, rays, eels, sharks and a plethora of kaleidoscope reef fish. Don't forget to scan the crack and crevices of the sprawling reefscapes for nudibranchs, frogfish, crabs and lobsters. And, if you'd like to work a bit for your supper, try your hand at lionfish spearing and come home with one of the best-tasting fish in the sea, knowing that you helped make the reef a bit healthier by removing this stunning, but invasive species.

For the next couple of days, take advantage of your prime location nestled between a tropical forest and the sea, heading inland on a jungle adventure tour. Take your pick from a catalogue of excursions ranging from birding to jungle river canoeing and spelunking. If you'd like something a little more laid back and cultural, delve into the magical Mayan history or visit the local wildlife sanctuary. This area abounds with wildlife, history and adventure each way you turn, and you have your final days in Belize to explore at ease whichever piques your interest most.

All too quickly your Belize adventure has come to an end. You'll be collected from your hotel and driven to Belize City for your flight home. The drive should take approximately two-and-a-half to three hours. From Belize City you'll catch your flight home, via Miami. The journey should take around 13 hours total, so settle in and enjoy a few in-flight movies and hopefully a nap as you prepare to re-enter the 'real world'.
