Nestled between the rugged Hajar Mountains and the Gulf of Oman, you wouldn’t guess the secluded Shangri-La Barr al Jissah is located a mere 15 minutes from the vibrant capital of Muscat.
Sprawling over 124 acres, the resort comprises three hotels: the adult-only Al Husn (The Castle), Al Bandar (The Town) and Al Waha (Oasis - Oman's first dedicated family hotel). All of the hotels have a different focus but share the same facilities, of which there are a plethora, from Oman's largest spa to an Omani Heritage Village (featuring traditional shops and activities) and Al Mazaar Souk (perfect for souvenir shopping).
The Extra Divers Qantab organises daily trips to Bandar Al Khayran and Fahal Island. With over 20 different dive sites, guests are spoilt for choice, from shallow coral gardens to rocky walls to the Al Munassir wreck - an 84 metre vessel teeming with marine life. Guests can also take dolphin and whale watching trips, whilst on land, the desert safari is a popular excursion.
Al Bandar and Al Waha cater perfectly for families, with an Adventure Zone family entertainment centre, GameZ entertainment centre and kids club. A 'Lazy River' connects the two hotels, providing a relaxing commute as guests drift from pool to pool. Across all three resorts there are three swimming pools, three private stretches of gold sand beach, four tennis courts, a gym and a nightclub. The resort also features a staggering nine restaurants, three cafes, three pool bars, two bars and a private beach bar - so it's safe to say guests will never go hungry (or thirsty).
Why we love it
Get lost in the Omani Heritage Village, a reincarnation of a traditional souk, where you can watch artisans hand craft intricate silver ware, pottery and weaving - the perfect place to pick up a souvenir.
