Exumas Diving Holidays: An Overview
Whether you are planning a liveaboard trip or want the comforts of a luxury resort, the Exumas are incredibly beautiful both above and below the waves. The islands are home to endless white beaches and a great variety of diving as well as one of our favourite resorts in the Caribbean.
Located just 35 miles south of Nassau is the start of a group of islands called the Exumas, arguably the most beautiful in the Bahamas. The chain of 365 islands and cays stretches to around 130 miles with endless possibility for diving, fishing and island hopping.
For the divers, beautiful walls where you have the chance of seeing hammerheads, thrilling shark dives, swim-throughs and blue holes can all be experienced and great options for snorkelling too. One of the best ways to experience diving the Exumas is by liveaboard and we think we have found the best: Aquacat.
When it comes to land-based accommodation, there is one particular 80-acre paradise stands out from all the rest: Fowl Cay. This is the perfect laidback luxury for couples and families and is a good all-round hotel in the Caribbean. Whether you snorkel or dive you are in for a treat. Snorkel in the beautiful cave where scenes from a James Bond movie were filmed or dive the untouched reefs. The more adventurous can join the local dive boat and snorkel above the divers on some of the fast shallow drifts over fields of brightly coloured corals and giant sponges home to turtles (including the increasingly rare Loggerhead), rays, nurse shark and endless tropical fish, or even better join the divers to get closer to the action.
