Voted the second best dive resort in the world by Dive Magazine in 2017, OBLU Helengeli has certainly proved its worth in the diving stakes, and it helps that the accommodation and Maldivian island location are pretty darn great too.
With 116 villas in total, split across four different categories, this is a larger resort than many in the Maldives. That said, the rooms are all lovely, spacious and modern in design. The Deluxe Beach Villas also benefit from direct beach access and twin sun loungers perfect for sitting with a drink at the end of a day of diving. For families the 'Beach Suites with Pool' are a great option thanks to their private pool and separate twin bedroom for the children.
All guests staying at OBLU Helengeli are on an all-inclusive package and can enjoy unlimited drinks at Helen's Bar, and fresh and flavourful food at The Spice restaurant. With a huge range of western and local cuisine there is always plenty to choose from and the relaxed restaurant atmosphere ensures you'll have a really leisurely dining experience.
Of course the main activity here is diving, which is run from the fantastic dive centre at the resort, by experienced and extremely passionate guides. Since the island lies in the middle of the main entry channel into the atoll there is a huge range of different fish to spot and the house reef is also in great condition. Exploring further afield can involve visiting as many as 30 dive sites, many of which are within 20 minutes from the resort, including the famous Bodu Thila, which has a high density of sharks and is only five minutes from the resort.
For non-divers or those who want to intersperse their diving with some other activities, the Elena spa offers a range of rejuvenating treatments in a tranquil setting, there are several water sports to try, and guided snorkelling trips can easily be arranged. There is also a sunset fishing excursion organised as part of your stay.
Guests of OBLU Helengeli stay on an all-inclusive basis, so there's no need to worry about a bill at the end.
