Travel Things I Want To Do Before I Die

  • Dive down and explore the amazing rock formations that make up the Yonaguni Monument in Japan and decide for myself whether they're natural or man-made...
  • Visit the time capsule that is Baia in the Gulf of Naples, I'd love to see the preserved underwater ruins of the Roman resort and the opulent villas, baths and mosaics there.
  • See schools of scalloped hammerhead sharks while on a liveaboard expedition to the Cocos Islands.
  • Brave the freezing fjords of Norway and swim with the ultimate apex predator that is the majestic orca.
Sea lions in the Galapagos.

Best Moments

  • Wading across the Zambezi River in Zambia to the Devil's Pool overlooking the Victoria Falls, feeling the immense power and weight of water flowing all around you. Followed by heading down to bungee jump off the bridge connecting Zambia and Zimbabwe, definitely one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life.
  • Sunrise diving at the Kimud Shoal in Malapascua with my partner, seeing the Thresher Sharks come out of the blue with their distinctive whip-like tail and elegant bodies contrasted by their huge, childlike eyes was a really serene, almost surreal encounter.
  • Spending a slow, sun-drenched day at Sunset Beach on Koh Rong Samloem, Cambodia, drifting between the turquoise water and a shady hammock, cocktails in hand, completely wrapped in the island's quiet calm. As evening settled in, the sky softened into warm colours, giving me one of the most quietly beautiful sunsets I've seen.
  • Snorkelling in the Galapagos, drifting alongside graceful manta rays, watching marine iguanas slip through the water like miniature dragons, and being joined by curious sea lions that spiralled and played around me.
  • Visiting a secret diving spot in Utila, Honduras where a couple of nurse sharks became my best friends for the whole hour-long dive and one of their shark suckers became slightly overfamiliar, trying to attach itself to me multiple times.
Islands in the Philippines.

Toughest Travel Moment

  • I was exploring the beautiful and relatively untouched region of Balabac, in the Philippines, when a cut on my foot got infected. Unfortunately, that meant I was 400+ miles and multiple boat trips away from the nearest doctor. Two days later my foot and calf had doubled in size, and I had early signs of blood poisoning. Luckily, I managed to get to a doctor in the end and a week's worth of antibiotics sorted me out to continue with my trip.

Weirdest Travel Moment

  • After a charming cooking lesson and a rainy walk back to my hotel in Ella, Sri Lanka, I discovered a surprising number of leeches had hitched a ride on my legs. The hotel owner, composed and impressively resourceful, appeared with a glowing ember, expertly removing each one before dabbing ash over the tiny marks to stop the bleeding.
